Iusacell Provides Fiber Optic Phone and Internet Services in Mexico

Warless cellular and PCS service provider in Mexico, Grupo Iusacell, is providing fiber-optic phone and Internet services to compete with Telefonos de Mexico SAB and Grupo Televisa SA. According to the information given in Iusacell’s website, the services were available in Monterrey, Guadalajara and the capital, the three largest cities in Mexico.

Consumers availing the fiber-optic service can attain a maximum download speed of 20 Mb/s for $138 a month. Iusacell’s fiber-optic technology could also be used to provide TV services. According to the companies’ website, Iusacell’s download speed is four times faster than Slim’s Telmex and three times faster than Televisa’s Empresas Cablevision. Iusacell is currently the third ranked wireless carriers in Mexico.

Iusacell, owned by Ricardo Salinas, ventured into the fiber-optic business to compete with Televisa, which provides Internet and phone services and operates three cable companies in Mexico.
