Siemens, leading electronics and electrical engineering firm, has announced that it will stop distributing the SIMATIC FS optical safety sensors from 1 October, 2010.

Simatic FS sensors

The company has been marketing the optical safety sensors under its SIMATIC FS brand. The optical sensors were manufactured by Leuze electronic, a German sensor company. Equivalent safety sensors will continue to be available in the market in Leuze models.

Siemens has also announced that it will stop distributing the FS100 safety switch strips. However, the company will continue to handle inquiries related to spare parts. Earlier, the company sold the proximity sensor business to Pepperl+Fuchs, a German sensor developer.

The devices, which will be affected by the new turn of events, include laser scanners and accessories, grids and curtains and light barriers. Future support and services for these products will be provided by Leuze.
