WDM-PON Workshop Discusses Application of Multiple Colors of Light in Fiber Optic Networks

The WDM-PON forum has conducted a workshop on the application of multiple colors of light in optical communication networks at the FTTH Council Conference. The event was held in Las Vegas on 12 September 2010.

The utilization of multiple colors or wavelength division multiplexing will provide high flexibility and bandwidth along with reduced cost. A number of renowned academic and industry professionals will attend the workshop. The workshop will feature panel discussions and presentations.

New communication networks are based on light-transmitting fiber-optic cables. The networks allow additional communication services and higher bandwidths to businesses and homes. The fiber-to-the-business or fiber-to-the-home networks allow reliable and efficient transmission of information.

Bernd Hesse from LG-Ericsson stated that the application of multiple colors of light opens up new possibilities in fiber-optic networks for end-users. He added that the WDM technology would bring new advancements in fiber-to-the- home network. The WDM-PON workshop has received a good response from major telecommunication companies, Hesse said.

Stefan Murry from Applied Optoelectronics said that the FTTH Council North America’s President, Joe Savage, will present the keynote at the workshop. Murry informed that the workshop will have speakers from top industry companies including Verizon, Hitachi, Ericsson and Cisco.
