BSNL to Deploy Fibre Optic Cable in Bangladesh

India’s telecommunications company, Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL), has announced that it will deploy the optical fiber cable across Bangladesh to link NorthEast Indian region with other parts of the world. The fibre-optic cable installation in Bangladesh will enable better telecommunication in NorthEast India.

Debkumar Chakraborty, General Manager of BSNL, stated that the company had conducted a survey from Agartala to Akhaurah, a town in Bangladesh. Another survey is being conducted from Chittagong to Ashuganj that are SouthEast and Eastern regions of Bangladesh, respectively. The entire field analysis will be concluded by 2010 end, he said.

Chakraborty added that the company will present the report to the government once the survey is completed. The actual deployment of the optical fiber cable will be started after obtaining the approval from Dhaka and New Delhi, he stated.

Manik Sarkar, Tripura’s Chief Minister, unveiled BSNL’s Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) service in the state.
