Adams Telephone Invests $5.5 Million in Fiber-Optic Project

Telecommunication service provider, Adams Telephone Co-Operative, has invested $5.5 million in an optical fiber program to benefit the rural Adams County in Ohio. The FiberWorks project will provide fiber-optic networks to Golden, Mendon, Ursa and Lima townships in Adams County.

In the Golden town, installation of the fiber-optic cable was initiated in mid–August. The Rural Utilities Service granted loans for the FiberWorks project. The first phase of the installation will benefit approximately 1,200 members of Adams Telephone.

The Chief Executive Officer of Adams Telephone, Jim Broemmer stated that the network installation would pave the way for future telecommunication services. Future services include cable television and home security type services, he said.

Broemmer informed that the FiberWorks initiative is a multi-year project. The fiber cable will be deployed in the ground by mid–September. The company will carry out the splicing and connecting processes in four telephone exchanges. Broemmer added that the company’s board members will analyze the project every year to determine as to which regions require the network for the next phase of installation.
