Russia to Construct Laser Ranging Stations in Israel

The Prime Minister of Russia, Vladimir Putin said that the government intends to construct laser ranging stations in Israel, to be connected to the Global Navigation Satellite System (Glonass) of Russia.

At a meeting with Ehud Barak, the Defense Minister of Israel, in Black Sea resort of Sochi, Putin stated that experts from Russia and Israel are evaluating the feasibility of building laser-based distance-measuring stations in Israel. Russia has potential transport aviation and military projects. They have purchased many drones from Israel, and have launched many satellites for Israel, he said.

Anatoly Serdyukov, the Defense Minister of Russia, stated that Russia had purchased 12 unmanned aerial vehicles from Israel, and they are currently training about 50 servicemen to operate the unmanned aerial vehicles. The defense ministries of both the companies have also entered into a long-term agreement for military cooperation.
