High-speed broadband access will provide more business opportunities in Marshfield, Massachusetts

The University of Wisconsin-Extension’s Vice Chancellor, Maria Alvarez-Stroud is supervising the administration of two grants, which will fund educational efforts and cable deployment in the communities. The total amounts of the federal grants are $32.3 million.

Alvarez-Stroud stated that the fiber-optic cable will be laid  across the university  locations. The cable will be linked at every three miles, which will enable both industries and private internet providers to access it, Alvarez-Stroud said. The cable offers increased bandwidth and will enable rapid data transfer over the internet. It will also prove useful for the healthcare market, she said.

UW Systems’ Technical Project Manager, Brian Remer stated that a private telecommunication company, CCI Systems, will install the fiber-optic cable.
