Philips to Participate in 1,000-Village Solar LED Program

Royal Philips Electronics, lighting and consumer electronics manufacturer, has announced its plan to participate in the 1,000-Village Solar LED program. The Solar LED program is a proposal launched by One Foundation and The Climate Group.

The Solar LED program commenced at a Climate Group event held at Xiao Xi Chong, China. The 1,000-Village Program, which was started in Guiyang City in August 2009, explores the promotion and large-scale application of green technology in the rural regions.

The 1,000-Village Solar LED program provides solar-powered LED lighting to China’s rural communities. The Climate Group associate and the former Prime Minister of Britain, Tony Blair, attended the Solar LED event.

The program covers various aspects of the clean technology including, technology solutions, environmental policy and operational aspects. The five-year objective of the Solar LED program is to promote green technology projects across rural areas in China and other nations. The program also has a short-term goal to provide LED lighting products to more than 40 administrative villages in China in the first year.
