New Laser Procedures for Cataract and Presbyopia Disorders

Technolas Perfect Vision (TPV) has introduced two new laser procedures for treating cataract and presbyopia eye disorders.

The company has developed a new femtosecond laser procedure for conducting critical steps during the cataract surgery. The CUSTOMLENS laser procedure module will be available on TPV’s Femtosecond Workstation.

The CUSTOMLENS is the first single device laser to be used in cataract and refractive surgery. Besides the cataract surgeries, the laser can also perform the CUSTOMSHAPE, CUSTOMFLAP Lasik flaps, INTRACOR presbyopia treatment, and corneal incision steps during cataract operation, lens fragmentation and anterior capsulotomy. The CUSTOMLENS laser procedure will be available for commercial use from 2011.

In addition, TPV has developed a new corneal technique to treat presbyopia using an excimer laser, SUPRACOR. The SUPRACOR is a novel presbyopic algorithm that is specifically developed for treating Emmetropic, Hyperopic, Myopic eyes, including post-LASIK cases. The TECHNOLAS Excimer Workstation 217P is used for performing the SUPRACOR treatment.

The SUPRACOR algorithm enhances surgery outcomes and patient satisfaction. The SUPRACOR does not induce undesired aberrations in the pupil region and provides desired results. The SUPRACOR is expected to obtain the CE mark approval in 2011.
