Telecom company, Flow Jamaica, is at the final stage of deploying a fibre-optic broadband network in Montego Bay. The project is expected to be completed by December 31, 2010. Approximately $30 million dollars will enable the company to provide broadband service to about 40,000 home. The project also includes the construction of a new store at Bogue’s Fairview business and shopping complex.
Currently, Flow has deployed its fibre-optic cables across the city, extending from Greenwood to Reading. The company has provided broadband services to a number of areas, which includes Lilliput, Rhyne Park, Montego Freeport, Ironshore, Coral Gardens, Farm Heights and Bogue Village. Residential consumers have a wired broadband internet access of up to 15 Mbps. The company provides customized service to business companies.
Flow has planned to build the broadband network in Ocho Rios by November 2010. Flow’s cable licence necessitates the company to offer full broadband connectivity to about 750,000 Jamaican households in. However, this project is behind the scheduled date of completion. The company is negotiating a new time frame with the Broadcasting Commission.
Flow provides triple-play services such as voice, internet and cable throughout its optic cable network.
