Rutland Telecom Provides Fiber-Optic Broadband Link in Erbistock, UK

Rutland Telecom, broadband service provider, has received a major project to provide high-speed broadband connection in Erbistock, UK. About 80 homes in Erbistock will receive the broadband link. Rutland estimates that the project will be completed by October 2010. The total installation cost is approximately £50,000.

About 1.5m households in the UK do not have access to broadband

The Welsh Assembly Government is providing the funds for the broadband project. The government’s broadband support scheme offers £1,000 for each  business and household premises. In order to qualify for the scheme, both businesses and households are needed to register as a ‘notspot’ with the assembly government. The ‘notspot’ is an area where there is no broadband connectivity and is usually located far away from the telephone exchange.

Rutland Telecom’s Managing Director, David Lewis stated that the company was able to provide high-speed broadband services to Erbistock homes by replacing the copper wire cable with fiber optic cable. This upgrade will enable Erbistock households to receive 40 Mbps high-speed broadband connection, Lewis said.
