NKK Switches Increases Display Life of SmartSwitch Pushbuttons’ OLED

Electromechanical switch manufacturer, NKK Switches announced that it has increased its OLED SmartSwitch pushbutton switches’ display life by two times. The company has also decreased the power consumption of the switches by 30%. The OLED pushbutton switches are ideal for applications that necessitate real-time sequencing or a dynamic user interface, such as custom keyboards and control panels.

Now the OLED SmartSwitch pushbutton offers a display life of 30,000 h, offering 40% pixels on at 100cd/m². The OLED display life can be further increased to five years or more when used in applications that need equipment usage below 24/7, or low candelas per meter squared.

The SmartSwitch pushbutton device includes a conventional SPST pushbutton and a built-in OLED display, within a single device. The SmartSwitch OLED displays and pushbuttons are emissive devices that are operated by using data and commands provided through the SPI communications protocol.

The OLED switch offers a resolution of 64RGB x 48 pixels. Better than the traditional LCD programmable switches, the OLED switches provide a number of advantages such as a color palette of 65,536 colors, 180 degree viewing angles, faster response time, higher resolution, and a full motion video capability.
