TEO to Deploy Next-Generation Fiber-Optic Network in Lithuania

TV and telecommunication service provider, TEO LT, will invest 96 million litas to deploy its advanced fiber optical network in 2010. The investment will provide the Fiber to the Home (FTTH) internet services to about 50% of Lithuania’s population.

In 2010, the company’s total investment to develop information systems, network and other business activity is worth 178 million litas. The next-generation fiber-optic network will be available to about 75% Kaunas residents, 95% Klaipeda residents, 88% Vilnius residents, and over 50% Siauliai and Panevezys residents by 2010 end.

The number of subscribers using the fiber-optic network services has increased to 84,000 by June end.  It is estimated that more than 100,000 customers will use the network by 2010 end.

Present internet speed offered by TEO is 200 Mbps, which will be increased to several Gbps speeds in the future. The FTTH network will offer a number of high-quality services via a single access point. The FTTH network will allow customers to transmit video records, surf internet, watch digital television and make telephone calls simultaneously.
