Nepal Telecom to Expand Optical Fiber Network in Nepal

Telecommunication giant, Nepal Telecom (NT), has announced that it has planned to distribute 46,000 lines of the ADSL broadband internet across 75 district regions. 

Telecom’s Spokesperson, Surendra Prasad Thike informed that the company has also planned to offer Wi-Fi internet service to 500 regions in the Nepal. The company will collaborate with the Nepal Electricity Authority to extend the 3000 km fiber-optic network, and will expand an additional 800 km of fiber network on its own.

NT will also upgrade the equipment to enhance the mobile service and will collaborate with other enterprises to optimize the network. The company has also planned to set up 120 radio links to extend its transmission infrastructure.

NT’s Managing Director, Amar Nath Singh stated that the company will shortly introduce the Next Generation Network (NGN) technology-based services, and has signed contracts with Huawei and ZTE for the NGN technology.
