Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery Reduces Pain in Patients

Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (MISS) is now available in Malaysia and people can select various endoscopic techniques for treating spine surgery. The surgery is an alternative for microscopic surgery, minimizes pain significantly and leaves behind just a keyhole-sized scar.

Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery

Stefan Hellinger, MISS’ innovator and orthopedic surgeon at the Munich, Germany-based Isar Klinik, worked for about 20 years to bring out the MISS tools to treat spine conditions including contained disc protrusion, painful disc bulge, and discogenic pain. Hellinger has entered into a partnership with Tonik Asia Group to launch the first Germany-Malaysia Advanced Spine Centre for the commencement of the transfer of quality assurance and skills between the countries. In addition, the collaboration will promote education, research and development, and medical tourism.

Hellinger stated that MISS is a perfect option for the open procedure used in the microscopic surgery. He added that a number of surgeons are performing endoscopic spine surgeries because this endoscopic technique reduces the possibility of nerve damage, and infection level. In the beginning, inexperienced surgeons to the MISS procedure need to work with experienced surgeons to practice the surgery tools and discuss the steep learning curve, Hellinger said.
