Experts Share Latest Developments in Green Photonics at Optics and Photonics Conference

Latest developments in green photonics technology were shared by over 400 experts at a major optics and photonics conference, Photon10. The conference took place at the University of Southampton in Europe on August 23 2010.

Optoelectronics Development Association (OIDA)’s President, Fred Quan inaugurated the conference and spoke about the hazards of rising energy cost and increasing amount of CO2 in the atmosphere.

The U.S. OIDA conducted a survey on green photonics technologies and proposed that a part of the optoelectronic technology that helps in decreasing energy consumption will increase quickly over the next 10 years. By 2021, the green photonics will produce $243 billion, which is five times more than the revenue generated in 2008. Green photonic technologies range from consumer technology for television screens and home lighting to efficient conversion of electrical energy from renewable resources.

Quan stated that the green photonic technologies will continue to allow cost-efficient applications and enhance healthcare.
