NebraskaLink to Build Fiber Optic Network in Nebraska

NebraskaLink has announced that it will build a fiber optic network throughout the Nebraska state at a cost of $16.5 million. NebraskaLink is a consortium of seven separate telephone organizations, working together to build fiber optic rings across Nebraska.

The consortium consists of Northeast Nebraska Telephone Company, Nebraska Central Telephone Company, Hartelco, Hamilton Telecommunications, Great Plains Communications, Consolidated Companies and American Broadband.

The fiber optic project is anticipated to generate 162 jobs and the network will span 1,979 miles across the state of Nebraska. The project includes both new and existing fiber-optic network construction to deliver broadband services across Nebraska’s 37 ‘middle mile’ service regions.

The network including the fiber optic cable will link 101 community anchor institutions throughout Nebraska. The community institutions comprise higher education institutions, K-12 schools, community colleges, public safety agencies, libraries, and medical facilities.

NebraskaLink will also deliver the ‘middle mile’ services to new community anchor institutions by interlinking with service providers.
