UP Chemical and Chemtura Join to Enter High Brightness LED Market

UP Chemical and Chemtura announced a new collaboration for a joint venture company, which will produce and market metal organic precursors for High Brightness LED market in Asia-Pacific and South Korea. The joint venture is anticipated to start the supply of metal organic precursors to the market of High Brightness LED by the end of this year.

The collaboration will leverage the technology and ability of Chemtura associated with metal organic precursors and the backward integration for TMA (trimethylaluminum). Metal organic precursors are used for specialty applications such as polymerization, while the TMA is an important material for production of metal organic precursors used in High Brightness LED chip manufacturing.

The partnership will amalgamate the proficiency of Chemtura and the capability of UP Chemical in providing highly pure metal organic precursors for the semiconductor device producers in Asia Pacific and South Korea. Both the companies anticipate the joint venture company in Korea to be equipped with the capability for producing trimethylaluminum and trimethylgallium, by the end of 2011.
