New Absolute Optical Encoder from Renishaw

Renishaw has announced the new RESOLUTE optical encoder system, which is an absolute encoder that offers 27-bit resolution at a speed of 36,000 rpm. The RESOLUTE provides immunity to dirt.

Absolute Optical Encoders

It delivers 1 nm resolution at a maximum of 100 m/s, for the angle and linear encoding applications. The encoder is ideal for high performance lathes, and slow-moving axes that necessitate high motion control and precision integrity.

The absolute encoder uses a single-track optical scale to acquire the absolute position instantly after switched on, without the need of a battery back up. This simplifies the machine design by removing reference return-needs. The encoder utilizes advanced optics for reading a 30-µm, fine-pitch scale, offering low noise levels to deliver better positional stability.

The RESOLUTE includes an IP64 sealed readhead that allows a wipe-clean recovery to offer high reliability. The readhead comprises a temperature sensor that measures the heat build-up, and triggers an alarm when the head temperature increases above +80°C. In addition, speed monitoring, position checking, and signal monitoring functions are continuously carried out inside the readhead. The absolute encoder is compliant to the standards of RoHS and WEEE.
