Telkom Kenya, provider of integrated communication solutions, has announced that it has planned to expand the African network via its fibre optic network.
The company informed that it is at the final phase of connecting the fiber optic network to Sudan, Somalia, Tanzania and Ethiopia. Once the work has been completed, the company will move on to other countries.
At the African Peering and Interconnection Forum, Jane Karuku, deputy CEO of Telkom Kenya, stated that the company is the main center for submarine connections in the eastern regions of Africa, and will leverage this position to serve other parts of the continent. The company is already serving the National Optic Fibre Backbone Initiative, a government-owned organization, and a number of Kenyan organizations, Karuku said.
Karuku further informed that the company has shareholdings with the TEAMS and EASSy cables, and the Lower Indian Ocean Network will be rolled out next year. All these fiber optic networks will allow the company to assist the carrier-to-carrier business in Kenya.
