BT to Build Fiber Optic Network in Greater Manchester

Telecom giant, BT, has announced that it will provide fiber optic broadband services to Greater Manchester. Over 66,000 business enterprises and residents in Wilmslow, Urmston, Swinton, Hyde and Denton will benefit from BT’s high-speed broadband services.

Once the broadband network gets completed, both residents and businesses will get download and upload speeds of up to 40Mb/s and 10Mb/s, respectively. The download speeds may increase to 60Mb/s in the future. BT estimates that the fibre optic broadband network will connect approximately 386,000 houses and company establishments in the north-west by late summer.

Mike Blackburn, BT’s north-west Regional Director, stated that broadband services in greater Manchester will help support the local economy. The company has already installed the broadband network in Dalgety Bay and over 3,800 houses and business companies can now access high-speed broadband network.
