Energy Focus to Develop Sol-Gel Coatings for LED Lighting and Solar Systems

Provider of energy-efficient lighting products, Energy Focus, has announced that a $1 million Phase II DOE (Department of Energy) SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) award has been granted to its research and development team. The award will help in designing sophisticated Sol-Gel coatings to improve the performance of the solar and the lighting systems.

The Chief Technical Officer of Energy Focus, Roger Buelow, informed that the Phase II DOE SBIR was awarded in view of the success achieved in the Phase I and the potential value of the Sol-Gel coatings. He added that the Phase II project has good overlay for the company’s Intellitube and Solar program attempts. The Sol-Gel coatings will enable the company to boost the efficiency of its LED lighting products by 4% to 10%., he said.

The Chief Executive Officer of Energy Focus, Joseph Kaveski, stated that the project supports the company’s efforts to produce energy efficient solar and lighting products.
