An Indian company, (DRDO) Defence Research and Development Organization, is designing a range of DEWs (directed energy weapons) to enhance India’s anti-ballistic missile ability.
The directed energy weapon is an advanced tool that is designed to destroy a target. The DEW produces energy and transmits the same to a target to destroy it.
India’s laser weapons can be deployed in three platforms namely Navy’s submarines and destroyers, fighters and air force’s transport planes. In the beginning of the year, India had introduced anti-aircraft missiles and carried out two anti-ballistic missile interception tests.
The Director of DRDO Laser Science and Technology Centre, Anil Kumar Maini, stated that the DEW laser weapon is capable of producing 25 kW high-energy pulses, which can destroy a ballistic missile within 7 km. He informed that a dynamic laser-based directed energy weapon, which can be installed by a moving vehicle, is being developed simultaneously.
