ARRIS announced that the South Pittsburgh-based cable operator, Trinity Communications has unveiled high-speed data, video, and digital voice triple play service through the ARRIS FTTMax RFoG (RF over Glass) fiber network. Trinity Communications announces services to Sequatchie and Marion County in Tennessee.
Key elements of the RFoG deployment include a TransMax RFoG Repeater, FTTMax RFoG Optical Network Units, and ARRIS CORWave II forward multi wavelength transmitters. The RFoG deployment will provide triple play services to about 3,000 businesses and homes. The services will cover more than 200 miles of the fiber-optic facility.
RFoG provides triple play services based on DOCSIS over fiber networks to customers in low-density areas in a cost effective way, because of the low power consumption and decreased maintenance. It provides a combination of best of passive optical network and RF technologies, allowing cable operators to utilize their current CPE devices and provisioning systems.
The President of Trinity Communications, James Gee, stated that the company chose ARRIS RFoG and CORWave solutions for their reliability. He added that the cost model and return on investment of RFoG appealed to the company, as the population density of their system is low.
