RF’s Endoscopy Device Receives 2010 Frost + Sullivan Award

Frost & Sullivan, business research and consulting company, has awarded the ‘2010 European Medical Technologies Product Leadership of the Year Award’ to RF for developing a novel capsule endoscope, the Sayaka.

According to the company, the Sayaka is cost-efficient and delivers improved performance compared to other  endoscopy devices available in the market. The Sayaka will assist the medical examination sector by contributing to preventative medicine.

Sayaka capsule endoscope

The basic function of the Sayaka is to capture and store the images of the digestive tract in a map data. This data provides complete database for the physicians. An image analysis software checks the database for any abnormalities, thus enabling physicians to detect the diseases at the early stage.

RF Co adopted a Mosaicing technique to develop the capsule endoscope. In the Mosaicing method, the final image display is constructed like a lengthy, flat map by integrating the successive captured photo images. About 20 images are captured in each rotation and 870,000 images are taken from a range of angles. This technology helps in performing quick and comprehensive endoscopy procedure inside the large and small intestines.

The Sayaka capsule endoscope has more than 97% acceptance probability rate in the market. The Mosaicing technology could lead to a new method of examining the small intestines. In addition to capturing the images of the digestive tract, the Sayaka can also be used for monitoring and locating secular distortion.
