Taneytown to Deploy Fiber Optic Network

Taneytown City Council has proposed to build a fiber optic network in Taneytown. Henry Heine Jr., City Manager, made the announcement at a City Council meeting held on 4th August 2010.

Heine proposed that in addition to the City Council building, the fiber optics should also be deployed to fire station, police station and York and Frederick streets, in view of the water main work. The fiber optic installation will allow Taneytown to sell the network to various business companies in the industrial parks and get back its $15,000 investment.

Heine informed that the water main work, which was completed in eight days time, attracted a lot of complaints from the community members. However, the work is expected to be completed by the weekend.

City Council Mayor, McCarron, stated that he obtained three applications regarding an open City Council spot, and will make a recommendation on this issue shortly.
