Weldon to Provide Advanced LED Lighting Solutions for New Hybrid Electric Buses

A division of Akron Brass, Weldon, has been selected to provide energy-efficient LED lighting products for new hybrid electric buses. The six new buses will be joining the fleet of existing buses at the Columbus City Schools, which transport approximately 31,000 children every day.

The proprietary V-LED technology from Weldon offers superior signaling power and high-brightness that will increase students’ safety. The LED lights are also energy-efficient and consume minimum power.

Tom Barnett, Director of lighting products at Weldon, stated that school buses mainly utilize amber and red colored lights. Generally, a white light source is used in halogen lamps and specific wavelengths need to be filtered out to attain the required color. The filtering results in lost energy, which is 25% and 75% for amber and red color lights, respectively. Barnett added that the main advantage of using LEDs is that they do not attract filtering losses and produce the desired colors.
