BSNL Chennai Telephones will introduce FTTH (Fibre-To-The-Home) networks to select communities in Chennai, India. FTTH involves deploying optical fibres at customer’s place to offer high-speed Internet connectivity.
BSNL has signed FTTH agreements with six builders for installing the networks in more than 6,000 residents. However, the company will announce the commercial availability of the FTTH products soon.
BSNL has recently signed a MoU with Mantri Developers for offering FTTH connectivity to a big residential project in Padur, Chennai. The telecommunication company plans to utilize the fibre optic networks to bring fibre cables for these residential projects. Alternatively, the company plans to link with a nearby GSM tower featuring fibre-optic channels. The fibre-optic cables will be linked with the Optical Network Terminal device in each room of the customer place. The FTTH allows users to relish HDTV, DTH, IPTV, high-speed internet, and other such digital entertainment services.
The FTTH network can be beneficial for the Small Office Home Office sector. BSNL will be rolling out FTTH network on a very selective basis, because of its high-deployment cost.
