Semtech has introduced a new 10-channel white LED (light-emitting diodes) driver, the SC442, for LCD backlighting applications. The LED driver is also suitable for digital signage, navigation, avionics, industrial and medical markets.
The compact LED driver comprises a 3A boost power switch, and can drive up to 120 light-emitting diodes at 30 mA per channel.
The SC442 can operate over a wide voltage range of 4.5-21 V and works with regulated 18, 12 or 5V power supplies or lithium ion batteries. The LED driver is compatible with SEPIC (step-up/down) and boost (step-up) topologies. The synchronization feature in the LED driver removes the inter-modulation noise that are generally present in LED-backlit LCD televisions using multiple driver integrated circuits.
The LED device also includes features namely programmable and open short LED protection, overload and over-temperature. The programming of the switching frequency controller is done from 200 kHZ to 1 MHz to optimize L/C filter sizing and efficiency.
The SC442 driver is RoHS compliant and does not contain halogen and lead.
