New Laser-Assisted Procedure for Treating Gum Diseases

Periodontists in West Tennessee are using a new laser technology to treat gum diseases. Todd Welch, a Periodentist, has been performing LANAP (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure) for over six weeks. Welch utilized the PerioLase technology to treat gum diseases. The PerioLase dental laser has been approved by FDA.

Welch informed that the LANAP offers a less painful method to treat gum diseases. The black color indicates the presence of bacteria, which causes gum problems and the red color indicates the presence of infected gums. The laser’s wavelength targets these colors without harming the teeth. The laser-assisted procedure significantly reduces post-operative healing time, said Welch.

Lance Culley’s clinic was the first to introduce the PerioLase technology in Northwest Tennessee. The clinic has been performing the laser-assisted procedure for nearly five years.

Culley informed that the treatment enabled him to perform dental procedures without sutures or cutting, which are commonly employed in conventional surgery.
