Daylight Defense Wins Contract for Quantum Cascade Laser Demonstrator Units

The U.S. Naval Research Laboratory has awarded Daylight Defense a contract to develop QCL (Quantum Cascade Laser) technology based demonstrator units. The QCL systems are being developed to meet the new requirements of the directional IRCM (infrared countermeasure) systems.

Daylight Defense, a subsidiary of Daylight Solutions, designs and provides multi-wavelength, multi-Watt, military-hardened laser systems for applications in IRCM systems. If the QCL technology is leveraged into the IRCM systems, it is likely to bring positive results in power consumption, weight, and size immediately. The QCL system also offers clear upgrade paths for handling future requirements and threats.

Dr. Timothy Day, the Chief Executive Officer of Daylight Defense, stated that they are delighted to work with the Navy for providing sturdy laser systems for the warfighter. The QCL systems demonstrate the company’s design capabilities and would add more benefit in power and reliability, Day said.
