nTelos has chosen the 7100 OTS (Optical Transport System) from Tellabs for its widened optical fiber network to boost 10G, 2.5G, Ethernet, and SONET data services. Moreover, the nTelos selected the OTS with plan to include 40G and 100G data services. nTelos has expanded its fiber optic network by procuring nearly 2,200 miles of optical fiber from Allegheny Energy.
The 7100 OTS will allow nTelos to boost its fiber optic traffic with reduced consumption of energy and less network elements. The company already has a base of Tellabs 1150 Multiservice Access Platform and will continue deploying the platform as it increases its triple play and IPTV offerings for business and residential customers. nTelos has also chosen the Tellabs 1600-729 Optical Network Terminal to provide triple play services in office buildings, senior living centers, apartment complexes, and other multi-dwelling units.
The Director of Engineering and Planning at nTelos, Glenn Butler said that the 7100 OTS offers reliability and flexibility to serve critical services such as leased mobile backhaul capacity, and data center connectivity. He added that the low power needs, user-friendly network management system, and interoperability between the products of Tellabs would make considerable savings in cost for the company.
Tellabs’ VP of North American sales, Chuck Bernstein, stated that nTelos would be able to provide high-bandwidth services confidently, with decreased cost in networking.
