Raytheon to Deliver Laser-Guided Bombs to South African Military

Raytheon has secured a contract to supply advanced Paveway II laser-guided bombs to the South African Department of Defence (DoD). The company will provide air foil groups and LGB bomb kits to the South African military. Both air foil and LGB kits convert dumb bombs into advanced ammunitions for evaluating and testing on the Gripen fighter plane.

ARMSCOR, an acquisition company for the South African Department of Defence, awarded the contract to Raytheon to supply the LGB kits. Commercial sale of the LGB kits was negotiated with ATLANTIS Corporation, and Raytheon will deliver the weapons by 2011. The company will also provide ground and air crew training, In addition to the LGB kits.

Raytheon’s Vice-President, Harry Schulte, stated that the Paveway bombs have been used on over 22 aircrafts across the globe, making them suitable for South African military. He  informed that the company is the only firm to supply the Paveway weapons  at economical rates.
