China’s Mobile Operators Select Alcatel-Lucent to Build Fiber Optic Network

Alcatel-Lucent, telecom equipment manufacturer, announced that mobile operators, China Telecom and China Mobile, have chosen the company to set up a fiber optic network in China’s provinces. The company will install fiber optic network in over 18 and 14 provinces for China Telecom and China Mobile, respectively.

Alcatel-Lucent secured the contract through its flagship organization in China, Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell. The contract will allow the mobile operators to provide a number of services such as high-speed internet access and HDTV (high-definition television). Alcatel-Lucent will also deliver ONUs (optical network units) to support fiber-to-the-building and fiber-to-the-home connections. The company will provide network integration, installation and maintenance solutions.

Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell’s President, Romano Valussi, stated that Alcatel-Lucent is assists service providers to set up efficient networks that meet individuals’ specific requirements. Valussi added that the selection of Alcatel’s passive optical network solution reinforces their position in the fixed broadband access sector.
