Ciena Offers WDM Technology to Transtelco for Optical Network Expansion

Ciena and Transtelco announced the execution of a 400-kilometer network span with the help of the WDM transport technology of Ciena.

This longest span of Transtelco network adds bandwidth availability, redundancy, and route diversity. Transtelco has deployed more platforms from the packet-optical transport solutions of Ciena, to enhance connectivity to the metro rings, and accumulate traffic onto point-to-point link.

Using Ciena’s technology, Transtelco will be able to integrate its data center transport and connectivity services and offer more flexibility to the operators. For expanding the network, Transtelco has employed Ciena’s CN 4200 FlexSelect Advanced Service Platform, and CoreStream Agility Optical Transport System.

Transtelco’s engineering and development vice president, Manuel Marin, stated that Ciena had assisted them to achieve the longest span in their network. They are in the process of expanding the network in the southwestern border area, to match the increasing consumer demand, Marin said.

Ciena’s general manager and vice president for Latin America and the U.S. market, Alvio Barrios, said that as the networks establish across the region, they are focused on offering converged Ethernet and optical infrastructure for the development of the networks.
