The Ohio Pharmacy Board has authorized GE Healthcare’s ePrescribing solution featuring biometrics, to help the physicians of the state. GE has developed the solution in collaboration with OhioHealth, a non-profit health organization. Ohio State requires a two-factor authentication.
To meet the rigorous ePrescribing requirements of Ohio, GE combined its ePrescribing solution with advanced biometrics for the Centricity Electronic Medical Record. The solution is integrated with an external fingerprint scanner that requires the physicians to identify themselves to counter forgery. This provides the additional authentication layer needed by the Ohio Pharmacy Law. The ePrescribing solution is in operation at OhioHealth and is being used in 15 clinics by over 200 physicians.
Mrunal Shah of OhioHealth Information Services said that GE’s solution for two-stage authentication helps in authorizing physician’s identity immediately and generating paperless audit trail.
GE Healthcare IT’s VP, Jim Corrigan, commented that the company is delighted to work alongside the Ohio Health Board and OhioHealth to develop the two-stage authentication method, which would pave the way for all physicians to completely switch to ePrescribing for medication classes.
