GAO Comm Launches OTDR for Telecommunication Fiber Networks

GAO Comm has launched the new optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) for telecommunication, CATV, and ISP fiber networks applications. The handheld OTDR, model 3620 displays fiber’s loss distribution curves, fault point, connection point, attenuation coefficient, and length. The OTDR also displays the loss between return loss and splice loss.

The reflectometer is used for locating faults and analyzing losses in the installation, production, and maintenance of fiber-optic equipment and networks. It is suitable for both outdoor and indoor testing, as it is compact and easily operated. The OTDR can be used for comparing a maximum of six sets of test results at the same time, while observing any one result.

The lists of event analysis and test results can be uploaded to a computer using communication interface, and can be printed out with the help of the print-screen function. The OTDR provides two on-screen markers for zooming in and out on the curve details. The markers also locate and create the fault points list automatically.

The rapid response time of the OTDR enables it to complete a fiber measurement of 50km in 30 seconds. It also has a large battery capacity that allows the OTDR to function continuously for more than 12 h.
