LUXEON Rebel PC Amber LED Increases its Performance Benchmark

Philips Lumileds announced that its LUXEON Rebel PC Amber LEDS are setting new performance benchmarks in the illumination, automotive and specialty markets. The Hot/Cold factor of the Amber LED has increased 12% at 80oC. The Hot/Cold factor determines the amount of light delivered at operating conditions.

Manufacturers of retrofit bulbs are showing significant interest to substitute conventional incandescent bulbs and recreate the effect of white color to reddish-yellow color when the light is dimmed. When white LEDs bulbs are dimmed, they do not change their color and remain the same, unlike traditional bulbs. The light of a retrofit bulb can be changed to a desired color by adding an amber LED. However, amber LEDs exhibit poor color stability and light output at intense temperatures, which are typically found in retrofit bulbs. To overcome this problem, Philips Lumileds uses patented Lumiramic phosphor technology to produce a reliable and stable amber LED, which can perform under high drive currents and high humidity and temperature conditions.

The Vice President of Product Marketing, Philips Lumileds, Frank Harder, said that the Lumiramic phosphor and the LUXEON Rebel PC Amber delivers greater output compared to AlInGaP amber products.
