The Allegheny County Airport Authority (ACAA) has selected Appalachian Lighting Systems (ALSI), to manufacture and supply 1,347 LED lighting fixtures for the Pittsburgh Airport. The new LED fixtures will save a minimum of $158,000 in energy costs annually. The LED lights will replace the existing lights at the Passenger Pick-up and Drop-off areas, and Parking Garage of the airport.
Several US-based component suppliers, along with Imbue Technology Solutions, and Cree supported ALSI in this cost and energy saving project. Cree is a leading semiconductor lighting solutions provider, whereas the Pittsburg-based Imbue is a distributor of ALSI products. ACAA could execute the project because of the funding it received from the Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority, and the PA Conservation Works.
Dan Onorato, an executive of Allegheny County, said that the LED lighting project would help in reducing operating costs and increase energy efficiency. ALSI’s Chief Executive Officer, David McAnally, stated that the new LED lighting is free of maintenance for a maximum of 20 years and would also save 73% - 82% in energy costs.
Executive Director of ACAA, Brad Penrod, said that their main objective is to decrease its environmental footprint and conserve energy. He further commented that this project is cost-efficient and helps to provide excellent customer service.
