Mobius Designs New Optical Fiber Connector

Mobius Photonics has designed a new optical fiber connector called the Meight connector.  The detachable connector is specifically developed for a number of precision power applications such as fiber coupling in industrial lasers and pump light deliveries. The connectors are equipped with multimode fibers, whose core diameters range from 5 ì to 1 mm, to hold several hundred power watts.

The connectors have a large-thread hex nut that ensure a reliable and secure mechanical connection. The connectors can be utilized to fiber couple via a sealed bulkhead, and can be decoupled without breaking the seal of the bulkhead. The bulkhead interfaces can be used to join the Meight to Meight connectors and the Meight to SMA connectors.

The Vice President of Mobius, Red Byer, said that the Meight connector’s design combines simple extraction and insertion capabilities with high power delivery. The Meight connector is compatible with the bulkhead laser design and will be introduced into the commercial market shortly, he informed.
