JML Optical Industries, Inc. located in Rochester, New York, is a privately owned designer, manufacturer and distributor of precision optical components and systems. The company is dedicated to providing optimum and cost-efficient service to customers with wide ranging needs.
Since 1972, the first year of operations, JML Optical has continuously served domestic and international original equipment manufacturer (OEM) customers in the commercial and government sectors with high quality optics in prototype through high volume quantities. The 1990 introduction of the catalog — JML Direct — allowed the company to provide products to users of standard, off-the-shelf optical components. Combined sales of catalog and OEM products (excluding subsidiary turnover) have grown substantially over the past twenty eight years and now surpass US $12 million. Currently, the Rochester, NY headquarters employs approximately 80 personnel, some of whom are matriculated at Monroe Community College and pursuing degrees in physics or precision optical fabrication and testing. The company has a direct sales force which travels to assigned territories on a regular basis, and is represented by manufacturers representatives in the western U.S., Europe, South America and Asia.
The corporate headquarters in Rochester is home to all procurement, engineering, manufacturing, sales and quality assurance activities. The 110,000 sq. ft. headquarters also houses a complete precision optical fabrication shop geared to providing relatively short manufacturing lead-times associated with small to medium volume and prototype or "proof-of-concept" contracts.
Since inception, JML Optical has served over 2000 customers. The company has the technical resources to serve users with top-level system performance specifications who require a completely designed and engineered optical system. Alternately, customers with their own optical designs engage JML to manufacture timely prototype units in Rochester, often prior to the initiation of full scale production at an approved subcontractor. Still other purchasers request that JML design and apply a customized thin film to already ground and polished substrates, or perform designated secondary operation such as polishing or centering to customer furnished materials.
