LJMU Signs Memorandum of Understanding to Design, Construct and Operate New Robotic Telescope

Liverpool John Moores University Vice Chancellor, Proffesor Nigel Weatherill, and the Director of the Instituto de Astrofisica de Canarias (IAC), Proffesor Rafael Rebolo López, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore the design, construction and operation of the new 4.0 metre telescope which will be on a bigger scale than the current Liverpool Telescope (LT) which has been studying the cosmos and making discoveries for over a decade.

NASA's Fermi Gamma-Ray Space Telescope Helps Astronomers Connect Blazar Blast to Cosmic Neutrino

Nearly 10 billion years ago, the black hole at the center of a galaxy known as PKS B1424-418 produced a powerful outburst. Light from this blast began arriving at Earth in 2012. Now astronomers using data from NASA's Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope and other space- and ground-based observatories have shown that a record-breaking neutrino seen around the same time likely was born in the same event.

New Optical Technology Could Improve 'Seeing' of Telescopes, Help Scientists Observe Earth-Type Planets

Physicists of MIPT (Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology) and the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences developed optical technology for the "correction" of light coming from distant stars, which will significantly improve the "seeing" of telescopes and therefore will enable us to directly observe exoplanets as Earth-twins. Their work has been published in the Journal of Astronomical Telescopes, Instruments, and Systems (JATIS).
