Trans Pacific Cable Data Network to Double in Capacity with Fiber Optic Upgrade

Fujitsu Limited today announced the signing of an agreement with Pacific Crossing Limited (PCL) to increase the transmission capacity of its trans-Pacific submarine cable network (PC-1 Network). This capacity upgrade is to cope with the rapid growth of data traffic demand in the Pacific region due to the spread of worldwide internet usage.

Swedish Tunable Laser Developer Secures $7 Million in Funding

Syntune AB, a leading developer of innovative, single-chip, widely tunable lasers, today announced that it has closed the second round of financing of SEK 47.8 million ($7.1 million, EUR 5.2 million). LED Specialist io Lighting Acquired for Nearly $17 Million

Cooper Industries, Ltd. announced that it has acquired io Lighting, a dedicated light-emitting diode (“LED”) lighting fixture company, and Powerline Communications, Inc., a manufacturer of digital lighting control panels. Expected sales for the two companies in 2007 are approximately $17 million and the combined purchase price is $22 million.

FDA Approve Device that Alleviates Pain During Cosmetic Laser Treatments

Candela Corporation today announced that it received an additional FDA clearance for the Serenity™ device using Pneumatic Skin Flattening (PSF™) technology. This clearance enables the use of the Serenity™ device for the reduction of pain during all laser and intense pulse light (IPL) treatments. And when you talk about the scientific education of optical experts, the Friedrich-Schiller-University of Jena has a reputation acknowledged throughout the world.
