Sports Broadcasts Enhanced by an All-Digital Mational Fiber-Optic Network

HTN Communications, headquartered in New York City, has announced the launch of an all-digital national fiber-optic network designed to transport enhanced sports programming throughout the United States. The network, available to broadcasters, is expected to be ready in time for the start of the 2007-2008 NHL and NBA seasons.

Fiber to the Home Network Available in France

The cooperative service provider, La Communauté d'Agglomération du Havre (CODAH), selected ACOME to deploy a fiber to the home (FTTH) network in Gonfreville-l'Orcher, France. The network will include a "catastrophe information" service to inform residents of any accidents in Seveso, a classified industrial zone.

Ground-Breaking Technique in Breast Cancer Diagnostics - Photoacoustic Mammoscope

Photoacoustic techniques can supplement conventional imaging techniques in breast cancer diagnostics. From first tests on patients using the ¡¥photoacoustic mammoscope¡¦ developed by the University of Twente, researcher Dr. Srirang Manohar concludes that the images obtained add valuable information about the vascularisation of a tumor. The research has been done in cooperation with the Medisch Spectrum Twente hospital in Enschede, and the results are published in the online journal Optics Express.
