Optical cross phase modulation (XPM) may be described as a non-linear optical process where the wavelength of one light source affects the phase of another wave.
Metal halide lamps or metal halide arc lamps consist of a high performance arc discharge tube housed in an elliptical reflector that focuses the output into a microscopic optical train. The arc tube is filled with metal halide salts.
Sum frequency generation (SFG) may be defined as a second order non-linear optical process in which a tunable infrared beam is combined with a visible beam, such that that the frequency of the output beam is the sum of the input frequencies.
Acousto-optics is a phenomenon which deals with the interaction of light (optics) and sound (acoustics). The existence of an interaction between light and sound was discovered by Brillouin in the year 1922.
Advancements in smartphones are continuing to progress with an effort to making these phones capable of being applied in sophisticated fields of application including laboratory analysis.

The argon fluoride (ArF) laser is an excimer laser that consists of a mixture of noble gas such as xenon, krypton or argon and a halogen gas such as chlorine or fluorine, which when subjected to high pressure and electrical stimulation emits stimulated ultraviolet (UV) light in the range of 193 nm.
Carbon monoxide (CO) laser offers high average power in repeated pulsed modes and an effective control of pulse duration and output energy.
In a chemical oxygen-iodine laser, a basic hydrogen peroxide solution acting as an energy source is rather bulky to carry in the mobile body. In addition, the solution cannot be stored for a long time as it tends to decompose.
The deuterium fluoride (DF) laser is a chemical laser formed by a mixture of fluorine and deuterium gas under controlled conditions. The wavelength of light produced by DF laser is longer than that of other conventional HF lasers, and hence it facilitates more effective laser transmission.
Helium selenium laser falls into the category of metal-vapour lasers. The operation mode of this laser is similar to that of the helium cadmium laser. Spontaneous emission occurs when selenium switches between its excited states.
