Avago LED Products Complies with European Standard for Variable Message Signs

Provider of analog interface components, Avago Technologies announced that its new LED products support the European EN 12966-1 standard for the requirements of variable message traffic signs.

The HLMP-Ex3A/3B-xxxDV, and HLMP-Ex1A/1B-xxxDV LED lamps from Avago match the requirements of variable message traffic signs for 30° and 15° viewing angles, respectively. These 5mm LEDs offer extra brightness and are available in amber and red colors. The minimum luminous intensity rating of 30° and 15° LEDs are 5,500 mcd and 12,000 mcd, respectively.

The signs’ visual requirements determine the LEDs’ viewing angle. The signs on highways necessitate bright LEDs that have a narrow beam width. However, in cities LEDs with a wide beam width is needed for short distance legibility.

The new Avago LED lamps are designed specifically for outdoor sign and signal applications. Normally, the outdoor message signs must have a lifespan of above 10 years under extreme and rough working conditions. The new lamps can be deployed in traffic management as variable message signs, and as work zone warning lights, or in solar powered sign applications. As the LED has the maximum junction temperature limit of +130°C, it can operate at high temperature in bright sunlight. The LED lamp epoxy utilizes UV inhibitors to minimize the long-run exposure effects caused by direct sunlight. The RoHS-6 compliant, lead-free LED lamps are ready for production orders.
