Leading producer of copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS) PV solar panels, MiaSole, has announced that its area production modules have achieved 13.8% efficiency. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), a part of the U.S. Department of Energy, confirmed the efficiency of the production modules.
The new efficiency standard will enable the company to provide sophisticated and efficient solar modules with reduced manufacturing costs. During the manufacturing process, the copper indium gallium (CIGS) material is placed on a stainless steel substrate and all the layers of this PV material are produced in a constant sputtering process. MiaSole employs the sputtering process at all stages of the manufacturing process to coat the solar panels. This technique reduces both the production time and expenditure. The company’s products can be used for large-scale ground mount and rooftop installations.
MiaSole will begin shipment of the 6.5 MW of solar modules in the first half of 2010 and the 22 MW of solar modules by the end of the year.
MiaSole’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Joseph Laia, informed that the company has planned to deliver more sophisticated modules that exceeds beyond 13% efficiency. He said that the shipment of these solar modules will begin shortly after completing the UL certifications proces.
