Avnet has demonstrated its high-brightness (HB) LED products at the LIGHTFAIR International show. The company showcased the advantages of its MONALISA (Modular Networked Avnet LightSpeed Artchitecture) system, which is used for the control of HBLED luminaire.
The MONALISA system is used to control warm-cool color temperature settings, entire spectrum of colors and dimming levels of various HBLED lights such as pendants, sconces and spotlights. The new lighting system utilizes wireless touch-sensor technology to perform these controls. The hand-held remote of the system features the Atmel QTouch technology that is implemented on an ATiny88 microcontroller. The remote also features Atmel’s ATxmega1281 low-power microcontroller and an AT86RF230 2.4 GHz low-power transceiver.
The HBLED luminaires incorporate LM3409 constant current LED driver and LM5021 AC-DC PWM controller from National Semiconductor as well as ATxmega1281 microcontroller and AT86RF230 transceiver from Atmel. All these components work together to offer a constant current output, universal input driver that has the ability to supply a maximum of 100 W power to green, blue, red, cool white and warm white HBLEDs.
At the trade show, Avnet and ST-Microelectronics jointly demonstrated the reference design of STEVAL-ILL022V1 HBLED streetlight that is solar powered. Various features of the solar light system include daylight sensing, constant-current output drive, Maximum Power Point Tracking, full supervision or protection functions, and smart battery charging. Further, the company also showcased a demonstration on its transparent down light that uses photonic lattice HBLEDs and fanless-cooling.
Avnet’s director of technology for Americas Electronics Marketing division, Cary Eskow said that it is essential to consider all the aspects of the system such as control, form factor, luminous output, interface, thermal management, energy efficiency and environmental interaction, in order to provide solid-state lighting.
