BTI Photonic Systems is changing its name to BTI Systems and has plans to open a new design centre in Marlborough, Mass.
The Ottawa-based networking equipment maker said the name change reflects the combination of optical, Ethernet and synchronous optical networking technology in its single platform optimized for the edge of the network.
The new design centre will be focused on expanding BTI's next-generation of packet-optical networking solutions, the company said in a release Wednesday.
"BTI delivers flexible and affordable optical edge networking for service providers seeking to quickly build out networks beyond the core," said BTI's chief executive Lance Laking. "With our new design centre and streamlined focus on microwavelength division multiplexing (microWDM) and packet solutions, we are pushing forward to lead the development of data networking solutions that support increasing demand for the delivery of bandwidth-intense applications over a fibre infrastructure."
BTI's Netstender product is used to increase wireless capacity for networks that are not as large as the core infrastructures for central offices provided by companies such as Nortel and Cisco, and are used by small business parks and suburbs.
