Free Online Tutorial from Leister Covers Plastic Laser Welding Concepts

Leister Technologies announces the launch of a FREE 24/7 Online Tutorial as an Introduction to Thermoplastic Laser Welding. This tutorial is designed to inform a broad range of company personnel about the common problems solved with plastic laser welding as well the fundamental concepts and benefits in the manufacturing of sensors, medical devices, and automotive parts.

While many involved with plastic assembly are aware that laser welding can be used to bond plastic assemblies, it is difficult to find an overview of plastic welding that covers all of the options and benefits this technology offers. “We wanted to create a single simple tutorial that would bring anyone in engineering, management, purchasing, and manufacturing up to speed on the advantages available from using plastic laser welding,” says Jerry Zybko, General Manager at Leister Technologies. “We hope that people will use it to refresh their basic understanding, but more importantly share this information with their company and colleagues on how laser welding can provide solutions for their plastic assembly needs.”

Many common problems with plastic assembly are discussed in the tutorial including: particulate development, material flash, inconsistent process results, assembly of small parts, surface damage, difficulty in assembling different plastic materials together, complex joint designs, limited weld strength, and higher operating costs due to consumable consumption.
